The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has released a series of reports through its Cannabis Policy Institute (CPI), shedding light on critical aspects of Nevada’s cannabis industry. These reports, unveiled during CPI’s inaugural symposium on December 5, 2024, offer valuable insights into the state’s cannabis economy, marketing challenges, and the burgeoning THC beverage market.

Key Findings from the Reports:

  1. Overview of the Nevada Cannabis Economy: Economists Robin Goldstein and Olena Sambucci from the University of California, Davis, analyzed data from 2018 to 2024. Their report examines trends in retail and wholesale pricing, market dynamics, and regulatory challenges within Nevada’s cannabis sector.
  2. Cannabis Marketing: Challenges and the Path Forward: Authored by Dan Smith of Strategies 64 and UNLV marketing professor Marla Royne Stafford, this report delves into the complexities of cannabis marketing across various states. It highlights the inconsistent regulations that complicate the development of effective and responsible marketing strategies.
  3. Review of the Present THC Beverage Market: Tyler Klimas, founder of Leaf Street Strategies, explores the rapid growth of the THC-infused beverage market. The report discusses consumer trends and the intricate regulatory landscape surrounding these products.

CPI Director Riana Durrett emphasized the importance of these reports in guiding policymakers and industry leaders. She stated, “As Nevada navigates its position as a national leader in cannabis policy, these reports provide crucial and actionable insights to inform policymakers and industry leaders in our state and beyond.”

Established in 2023, the Cannabis Policy Institute at UNLV aims to advance cannabis research, policy, and education. It serves as a resource for lawmakers, industry stakeholders, and the public, fostering a comprehensive understanding of cannabis-related issues.
