This page explains how The Cannex chooses, researches, checks and updates what we publish. It applies to all six language editions.
Our principles
- Accuracy first. We would rather publish later than publish something wrong.
- Primary sources. We base our reporting on original documents — published studies, laws, court decisions, regulatory notices and official statistics — and link to them.
- Independence. Our editorial decisions are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors or the cannabis industry.
- Clarity about uncertainty. When evidence is limited, early or contested, we say so.
Sources
For medical and scientific articles, we work from the published paper, usually found through PubMed, PubMed Central or the journal itself. We report the type of study (for example a randomised trial, an observational study or an animal experiment), the number of participants and the main limitations. We do not present results from cell or animal studies as proof that something works in humans.
For legal and policy articles, we rely on the text of the law and on official sources such as government ministries, regulators, parliaments and courts. Where official texts are not available in English, we work from the original language. Secondary sources, such as news agencies or law firms, are used to add context and are named.
For market and business articles, we use official statistics, company filings and statements, and identify estimates and forecasts as such.
Fact-checking
Before publication, an editor checks names, dates, figures, legal limits and penalties against the original sources. Medical claims are checked against the study itself, not against press releases about it. Articles on rapidly changing topics, such as national cannabis laws, carry a “last checked” date.
Updates and corrections
Laws and research change. We review our legal guides and key explainers regularly and update them when the facts change; the “last checked” date shows when a page was last verified.
If we make a mistake, we correct it as quickly as possible. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the article. To report an error, write to info@thecannex.com with the link to the article and a short description.
Medical and legal content
Articles on The Cannex are for information only. They are not medical advice and not legal advice. We do not recommend doses or treatments, and we encourage readers to talk to a qualified doctor or pharmacist before using cannabis or CBD for a health condition, and to check current rules with official sources or a lawyer before acting on legal information.
Translations and local editions
Each language edition adapts stories to its readers. Legal sections are rewritten for the jurisdiction of the audience rather than translated word for word, and figures and sources are checked again in each language.
Use of technology
We use digital tools, including AI-assisted software, to help with research, translation and drafting. Every article is reviewed and edited by a member of our editorial team before publication, and the editorial team is responsible for everything we publish.
Advertising and sponsored content
The Cannex is financed in part by advertising. Advertisements and sponsored content are clearly labelled. Advertisers have no influence on our editorial coverage and do not see articles before publication. We do not accept advertising for products that are illegal in the reader’s country or that make unsupported health claims.
